Myofascial Trigger Point Dry Needling

Course Dates: March 13-15 and April 17-19, 2026. This 50-contact hour lecture/laboratory course advances knowledge and skills that will enhance the ability to examine, and evaluate patients/clients with myofascial pain and dysfunction utilizing integrated orthopaedic manual therapy approaches and evidence based best-practice principles. The laboratory portion will reinforce and expand upon physical examination and intervention techniques with an emphasis on dry needling techniques for the axial spine and extremity muscles. Participants will synthesize the concepts of clinical reasoning and clinical decision making while incorporating evidence-based practice principles for patient management. Upon completion of this course, participants will sit for a written and practical competency examination in order to perform physical therapy dry needling techniques for the muscles covered in this course. Please contact Laura Zajac-Cox, PT, DPT at zajac-cox_ll@mercer.edu with any questions.

Movement Integration

Course Dates: May 30-31, 2026 This course provides a focused review of the Functional Approach to movement analysis as described by the Prague School, alongside the Movement Impairment System developed by Shirley Sahrmann. Participants will perform postural examinations of key regions—including the lumbopelvic, foot, and cervicoscapular areas—with emphasis on identifying predicted impairments and selecting appropriate confirmatory tests. The course also explores essential functional movement assessments in standing, guiding clinicians in interpreting findings and refining hypotheses through targeted testing. Through discussion and clinical reasoning, participants will integrate assessment results into evidence-informed treatment planning, utilizing the Functional Management Pyramid as a framework for clinical decision-making. Emphasis is placed on neuromuscular training strategies for the lumbopelvic, foot, and cervicoscapular regions to support efficient movement and optimal functional outcomes.

Advanced Spinal Manipulation: Indications, Evidence, Precautions, Contraindications

Course Dates: June 19-21, 2026 This course introduces clinicians to the foundations of spinal and extremity joint manipulation with an emphasis on the safe and effective delivery of high-velocity, low-amplitude (HVLA) thrust techniques. Participants will learn practical, evidence-informed approaches to performing specific manipulations while prioritizing patient safety, clinical reasoning, and precision. Instruction emphasizes efficient body mechanics, the use of momentum, and minimal leverage positioning to enhance both clinician control and patient comfort. Designed to build confidence and skill, this hands-on course equips clinicians with immediately applicable techniques for improving patient outcomes. Primary Instructor: Tim McMahon, DPT,OCS, FAAOMPT, CertSMT
